The Department of Psychology, part of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Crete, was established in 1984 and welcomed its first cohort of students in the fall of 1987 in Rethymno. It holds the distinction of being the first and oldest Department of Psychology in Greece. A key figure in its founding was the late psychologist Maria Hourdaki, whose significant contributions were instrumental in its establishment. A native of Rethymno, Maria Hourdaki served as the Department’s honorary president until her passing in 2010. Read more
