Antonios Poulios is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Crete since 2026. They hold a degree in Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. From the same department, they obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology as a scholar of the State Scholarships Foundation, as well as a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
They work in private practice, providing psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy for adults and clinical supervision. They taught as an adjunct professor in the Departments of Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Crete, and continue to teach in the MSc Program in Clinical Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as at the University of Volos in the Training Program in Integrative Psychotherapy “Alypias Techni.”
They are also a scientific collaborator of AIDS Action Europe on issues related to chemsex; of the research group “Queer Analysis” at the School of Cultural Analysis of the University of Amsterdam; of the Greek Association of People Living with HIV “Positive Voice,” where they served as Scientific Coordinator of “Red Umbrella Athens” (a primary prevention, advocacy, support, and empowerment organization for people working in sex work) from 2015 to 2023; and of Orlando LGBT+ Mental Health Without Stigma. They are, finally, an external collaborator of the Greek National Opera.
Their research and scientific interests include clinical psychology, psychoanalysis, substance use (with an emphasis on recreational drug use, sexualized drug use, and chemsex), the impact of social inequalities and discrimination on biopsychosocial health, sexuality, gender identities, human rights, and community psychology.
They are a member of the Hellenic Psychological Society (member of the Divisions of Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology, Political Psychology, and LGBTI+ Psychology) and of the International Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. They have received the advanced therapist accreditation in gender, sexuality, and relational diversity from Pink Therapy.
In 2022, they received the international award for Outstanding Contribution to an Intersectional Psychoanalytic and Cultural Approach to Sexuality from the journal Studies in Gender and Sexuality, awarded by the Alexandra and Martyn Symonds Foundation. In 2025, they received the “Dimitris Georgas” Early Career Researcher Award from the Hellenic Psychological Society.
