Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology – Program Overview

The Department of Psychology offers a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology. The standard duration of the program is four academic years (eight semesters). Courses are delivered on a semester basis, with each academic year comprising two thirteen-week semesters: Fall and Spring. Courses are categorized as either required or elective.

The Department follows the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). To graduate, students must successfully complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits.

The program’s language of instruction is Greek. A small number of selected courses may be provided in English each semester.

Instructional Methods

Instruction is delivered through lectures, seminars, and laboratory/workshop sessions:

Lectures provide foundational knowledge across various areas of psychology. Open to all students, these courses typically carry between 4 and 8 ECTS credits.

Seminars are intended for third- and fourth-year students who meet the necessary prerequisites. These small-group sessions involve in-depth exploration of specialized topics, student presentations, and the submission of a term paper. Seminar topics may vary to reflect emerging areas of interest and carry a minimum of 6 ECTS credits.

Laboratories/Workshops share similarities with seminars but place greater emphasis on practical and experimental learning. Their content is also subject to change based on evolving academic interests and they carry at least 6 ECTS credits.

Foreign Language Instruction

Currently, English is the only foreign language offered within the Department. Students are required to take a placement test to assess their proficiency level. The curriculum includes a specialized English course in Psychological Terminology (4 ECTS). Additionally, students may choose to enroll in French, German, or Italian language courses offered by other departments within the University.

Practicum

In their final year, students must complete a 200-hour internship, distributed across both semesters, in a field of applied psychology. Internships are conducted in collaboration with institutions such as counseling centers, healthcare facilities, psychiatric institutions, research centers, workplaces, schools, and hospitals. Applications must be submitted during designated periods and must meet the criteria established by the Practicum Committee.

Undergraduate Thesis

Senior students have the option to complete a thesis under the supervision of a faculty member. The thesis should demonstrate the student’s theoretical understanding, methodological competence, and research skills on a selected topic. Completing a thesis is not mandatory for graduation and may be substituted with additional elective courses to fulfill the required ECTS credits.
